Where is that carriage? How can I keep track of the whereabouts of all my vehicles? What is the quickest way for my mechanic to get to the broken loc? Every minute counts. Where is this work train and in which direction is it going? Strukton Rail’s Track-N-Trace system provides a solution for those questions.
Operation of the systemA detachable unit, without cabling or antennas, is placed in a vehicle. The owner can request the vehicle’s position through the internet or by simply calling the direct mobile number of the unit. This ‘wakes’ the unit, which will automatically transmit its position with an accuracy of ca. 10 metres. The exact location of the unit will then be visible on a map on the internet.
People in the field will receive a text message on their mobile phone specifying the location.
Positions are determined using GPS satellite information. The system can be used anywhere in the world subject only to GSM cover.
User-friendliness
The Track-N-Trace unit has an independent power source, which makes it ideal for equipment with no power on board or equipment that one does not want to continuously connect to the battery. The module is usually in standby mode, waiting to receive a signal. The energy-efficient microcontroller ensures that the battery lasts at least one year. The battery condition is available for inspection on the internet.
Logistics tool
The Track-N-Trace application embeds seamlessly into any customer's logistics system. Equipment position is tracked continuously while in transport; the whereabouts of wagons or utility trains are available throughout operational activities and work interruptions. Equipment planning can therefore be extremely efficient, which may be required in e.g. the case of last-minute changes. And, if one should ever lose track of equipment, it can be traced immediately.
Applications
The Track-N-Trace unit has four digital inputs, to which external sensors can be connected. Possible applications include reporting movement and coming to a halt, engine running status, weight, door open/closed detection and access control. As soon as a position request is received, the supplementary input can be seen on the display screen.
Anti theft
The Track-N-Trace unit is an effective defence against the unauthorized removal of expensive installations, such as generators and advanced technical equipment. The modest dimensions and the absence of wiring make the box easy to conceal. And the Track-N-Trace unit is also almost undetectable for GSM scanners.
