Displays at the larger bus junctions in Zeeland will show the real-time arrival and departure times of the buses as from the beginning of 2011. Strukton Systems will design, deliver, install, test and maintain the required Dynamic Passenger Information System (DRIS) required for this. The Province of Zeeland has awarded this contract to Strukton based on the best price/quality ratio.
The DRIS meets an important need of bus passengers. The timetable is already available at bus stops, but can deviate from the actual times of departure. The main advantage of real-time passenger information is clarity and certainty. The up-to-date information will tell the passenger when the next bus will leave. This increased certainty serves to enhance the perception of public transport quality.
The contract for Strukton Systems includes two so-called ‘clusters’. The first cluster involves real-time passenger information through 25 displays at 14 stops. The contract may be extended with a second cluster for the communication of real-time departure times in public buildings, to bridge men and for passengers of the Fast Ferry Link Vlissingen –Breskens.
Strukton is currently working on the preparations – software design, power supply, testing, etc. The displays will be installed from the end of November, when the DRIS will also be installed and tested at the bus stops. The project should be completed at the beginning of 2011.
Sustainable solutions
Strukton Systems was selected by the Province of Zeeland following a European tender. Strukton scored high, also in the field of sustainability. Strukton aims to operate in a socially responsible way together with customers, staff members, partners and suppliers. This has led to the proposal to use recyclable materials. The display posts at the bus stops will be produced in a CO2 neural way and a sensor will be used to automatically control the intensity of the LEDs on the displays depending on the ambient light. In addition, Strukton reduces the use of paper by digitalising document flows and increases the use of public transport instead of the car. The work in Zeeland will be combined with another project for improving the wheelchair accessibility of the buses from the platforms.
