Track layers of the HanzaRailTeam have laid the final of the 167.5 kilometre rails on the Hanzelijn.
The Hanzelijn is getting shape. The Hanzelijn site now shows rails in addition to sleepers, catenary supports and ballast.
The HanzaRailTeam, a consortium of VolkerRail, Strukton Rail, ARCADIS and Alstom, is running on schedule and will continue with the construction of the catenary, laying of the cables, other power supplies and the construction of the baffle boards. The preparations for the building of the ERTMS safety system have also started.
The HanzaRailTeam is responsible for the construction of 167.5 kilometres of rails, 140,000 sleepers, 1,600 catenary supports and 12.88 kilometres of baffle boards. The HanzaRailTeam is also responsible for the development and installation of the ERTMS safety and control system, substations, switching stations, the traction power station and the telecommunications system.
The HanzaRailTeam will complete its work on the Hanzelijn at the beginning of 2012 op, after which the railway line will be tested, trainings will take place and calamity plans will be tested. The new railway line will be opened for passengers by the end of 2012.
