POSS Monitoring of Double-Decker Trains

19 | 01 | 2009

Twenty double-decker trains of the type VIRM will be equipped with on-board units for direct communication with the base during the first quarter of 2009.

NedTrain, the leading provider of rolling stock maintenance in The Netherlands, will use Strukton Systems' POSS system for continuously measuring the condition of the trains. The measurement data will be used to continually adjust the maintenance process of the trains. This enables NedTrain to easily find and solve possible problems at an early stage.

The project aim is to use condition based maintenance in order to:

  • improve the availability of the trains through preventing unforeseen maintenance
  • reduce the repair time of trains through early analysis of the source of problems

An initial pilot project with twenty trains will take place in 2009. NedTrain will equip all VIRM trains with POSS if this project turns out to be successfull.
