On Monday 7 November 2011, the superstructure contract for Spoorzone Delft was awarded to Strukton. The contractual sum is €19.4 million. This is the second major contract within the project to get under way.
Ad Broeders, project manager at Spoorzone Delft, says: “I'm very pleased that the superstructure contract has been awarded. It means we've taken a significant step towards the realisation of Spoorzone Delft.”
The superstructure contract includes:
· the tracks in the railway tunnel and their connections to the existing railway, including the overhead lines and the signalling
· demolition of the existing railway yard and the construction of a new yard for DSM
· the substation (for the power supply of the technical facilities in the tunnel, the signalling system, and the overhead lines)
Strukton will be starting the activities for the substation and the DSM railway yard in the second quarter of 2012. Joost Delwel, Strukton Rail's project leader, says: “This is genuinely multi-disciplinary work and so it suits us down to the ground.”
All the work that is to be done to create Spoorzone Delft is embodied in four large contracts. The first contract, for the tunnel, was awarded to Combinatie CrommeLijn in 2008. The superstructure contract that has been awarded to Strukton is the second. The two remaining major contracts, the completion of the railway station and the construction of the Delft council offices, are expected to be put out to tender in the autumn of 2012.
