A 50/50 joint venture between Strukton Rail and Aarsleff Rail has been awarded a subcontract by Siemens for the installation works of the first phase of the renewal of Banedanmark’s signalling system on the Copenhagen S-bane. This signalling project is part of a total renewal of the complete Danish railway signalling system which consists of three parts: the Copenhagen S-bane (which connects the city centre with the inner suburbs of Copenhagen) and the east and west part of the mainline and regional network of Banedanmark.

Banedanmark’s signalling system will be renewed using the latest ERTMS (European Rail Traffic Management System) signalling technology. ERTMS allows trains to run faster and more safely. Denmark is the first country that plans to install this system throughout his entire network.

The renewal of the signalling system on the Copenhagen S-bane consists of three phases and expected completion will be in 2020. Strukton Rail and Aarsleff Rail will install cables and equipment along the Copenhagen S-bane, covering 170 kilometres of double track and 85 railway stations.

Currently Strukton Rail and Aarsleff Rail are also working on a 64 kilometre long single-track railway renewal for Banedanmark between the towns of Bramming and Tønder along the coast in the South-West of Denmark.
