The Swedish national railway manager Banverket has awarded Strukton Rail the contract for the maintenance of the a 430 kilometre long section of the main railway line between Stockholm and Malmö that links Stockholm to the South of Sweden and the rest of Europe.

The output-oriented maintenance contract is for a period of five years, with an option for a further two. Having been awarded this contract, the Swedish division of Strukton Railinfra will have permanent responsibility for the maintenance of over 2000 kilometres of track in Sweden.

Strukton Rail won the tender by a small margin from Balfour Beatty and Banverket Produktion, the railway manager’s own production division. The participants in the tender competed in terms of price, quality of management and efficiency and past performance.

Now more than ever Strukton Rail has to profit from superior coordination of maintenance activities. The organisation has been responsible for the running and maintenance of six track sections in Sweden for a while. With this latest contract, Strukton Rail will be responsible for almost the entire stretch from Stockholm (Älvsjö) to the south of the country. In early 2007, Strukton was also awarded the contract for the maintenance of the Katrineholm–Mjölby line. Strukton has been maintaining the Älvsjö–Gnesta line, including the Grödingebanan, for some time now. The company currently has a presence from the north to the south of Sweden.
