Strukton Systems extends traction activities

Strukton Systems extends its activities in the maintenance and renewal of electric systems of railway vehicles. The company has employed seventeen experienced staff members to do so and opens a new office in Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht, the Netherlands.

Strukton Systems already had extensive knowledge and experience in the installation of electric systems in rolling stock. The new staff members are specialising in the design of electric systems for heavy rail (train) and light rail (metro, tram). Strukton Systems now offers an integrated solution, based on flexibility and maintenance.

The new staff members will start their activities from a new office with workshop in Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht. The workshop will be used for testing, building prototypes and repairs. Serial production will be done at Strukton Systems’ existing workshop in Hengelo.

Strukton Systems is now an important partner in the fields of:
• Electric power, both direct current and three-phase current
• On-board converters
• Vehicle control and diagnosis systems
• Renewal, Maintenance and Repair
• Replacement of components/systems
• EMC/EMI issues
• Installation of automatic train stopping devices/ERTMS
• Consultancy for general issues
• Optimisation of maintenance concepts

The newly acquired knowledge is complementary to the existing activities and products of Strukton Systems. An example is the successful product of POSS, a system for the remote monitoring of the technical condition of railway infrastructure – e.g. points or crossings. The system provides online insight into the condition of the connected objects. Users can deduct from the data whether preventive maintenance is required. The result: higher availability of the railway infrastructure.

The logical next step is the monitoring of railway vehicles. Strukton Systems and NS Reizigers, part of the Dutch Railways, are currently doing a pilot project with five V-IRM trains being monitored using this so-called board-shore communication. The new staff members, with extensive knowledge of on-board equipment, enable further extension of the POSS functionality.
