UTRECHT, 8 May 2009 – Strukton Rail has sent an unsolicited proposal to the Dutch railway manager ProRail to introduce a ten-minute service for intercity trains and slow trains on the main corridor Amsterdam - Eindhoven by 2012.
The Dutch Minister of Transport and the Lower House have expressed the desire to increase train frequencies already during this cabinet period. ProRail is working on a High-Frequency Programme. In advance of that programme, Strukton Rail's proposal enables six intercities and six slow trains an hour on this corridor in both ways by 2012, with a relatively limited budget. In addition, it would remain possible to run three freight trains an hour. The proposal therefore involves a capacity increase of almost 50% and shorter waiting times for train passengers.
In case the availability of budgets turns out to be a problem, Strukton Rail would be prepared to investigate the possibilities of prefinancing.
ProRail is examining Strukton's plan, that has been submitted according to the new Unsolicited Proposal procedure. ProRail recently introduced this procedure in the Netherlands to enable market parties to come with initiatives.
