On May 14th, Strukton Rail presented two new Vossloh G 1206 locomotives. The locs will be fitted with ETCS, the safety system needed to drive on ERTMS tracks. ERTMS, the European Rail Traffic Management System, will be the future safety standard on the track in Europe.

Some lines in the Netherlands have been equipped with ERTMS (Betuweroute, line Amsterdam-Utrecht, Havenspoorlijn and HSL-Zuid). Strukton Rail is the first contractor in the Netherlands to fit a locomotive with ETCS.

Both engines have been equipped with the automatic train stopping devices ATB (standard in the Netherlands) and Indusie (standard in Germany). The second engine will follow later this year

The two locomotives will also be provided with environment-friendly particulate filters. This is not yet a legal requirement for locomotives – the European norm for locomotives will become stricter in 2012. By already investing in a high-grade particulate filter for the new locs, Strukton Rail underlines the importance of careful environment management.

The purchase of the two locomotives is in line with the investments that Strukton Rail has done through the years in people and machines to realise its ambitions as a full-service provider. The company owns an extensive and advanced fleet of machines that are used in various European countries. Examples are renewal trains, ballast cleaning machines, ballast profilers, track stabilizers, packing machines, catenary equipment and locomotives.

Its various types of locomotives enable Strukton Rail to realise all transports required at all sites according to the customer’s desires. Strukton owns 15 locomotives:
• 4 x Vossloh loc G1206 (provide with ATB); Carin, Willy, Demi and Danique)
• 4 x shunting loc (Deutz 1200; Monique, Janine, Irene and Ankie)
• 2 x work loc (Ravot 2 and 3)
• 3 x 2200 loc (Anneke, Berta and Jose)
• 2 x shunting loc (O&K: Tiny and Herma)
The three 2200 locomotives are currently hired by Eurailscout and run along the Dutch tracks as video inspection trains.

It is tradition at Strukton Rail to give its locomotives women’s names. The names, derived from Strukton Rail’s own staff or their family, are the symbol for all employees who 24 hours a day put their heart and soul in their work, and for their family who support them in doing so.

The Tiny, Herma, Carin, Willy, Berta, Fransine, Anneke, Jose, Esther, Riek, Janine, Monique, Irene and Ankie were already riding on the track. The Danique and the Demi have now been added.

Danique and Demi, 12 resp. 9 years  old, are the youngest daughters of two employees of Strukton Rail who are always closely involved in the acquisition of locs.

Danique and Demi represent the youth, our future. By naming the locs after them, Strukton Rail links to times to come. Strukton Rail wishes future generation(s) a bright future.
