Test phase of midlife revision of Toulouse metro vehicles completed
06 | 06 | 2011
The first rebuilt VAL 206 vehicle for the Toulouse metro has performed well during its first 9,000 kilometres. On Friday 24 May 2011, Strukton Rolling Stock successfully completed the test phase of the delivery of a new traction system including traction control electronics for the 28 VAL 206 metro vehicles in total.
The VAL 206 is a driverless vehicle, which will undergo a so-called ‘midlife revision’ after 15 years of operation. Many parts will be renovated as part of this revision, including the traction system which is to be delivered by Strukton, but also e.g. the interior.
Strukton Rolling Stock has completed the test phase well within the planning and to the complete satisfaction of the customer Tisséo SMTC. Heavy tests with maximum load have also been fully successful. The first renovated vehicle has performed well and without any problems for over 9,000 kilometres in ordinary service.
The primary aim of the new installation is to reduce the amount of failures and make the vehicles better to repair by using modern components. The new installation will also use less energy; the energy saving turns out to be bigger than theoretically foreseen. Strukton will reuse parts of the installation wherever possible, which results in an economically attractive solution.
Strukton will provide all 28 VAL 206 vehicles with a new traction installation. The renovation of the entire series will start in September of this year and is estimated to be completed by the end of 2012.
