Strukton Rail takes several initiatives to reduce the CO2 emission in the sector. The company developed traction systems for rolling stock that make sure that the motor of a train does not get more power than necessary. If the train brakes, the power will be fed back to the electricity grid. This saves power consumption by 15 to 25%, or even 30% in older trains.
Strukton Rolling Stock has also initiated the development of a concept using batteries that enable storage of power in the vehicle. The vehicle can use this energy for accelerating, driving without catenary and feeding on-board electrical systems.
