Traction systems Toulouse metro

Strukton Rolling Stock designed and delivered 60 new traction systems for metro line A in the city of Toulouse. The customer is the operator Tisséo, which runs several metro lines operating the driverless VAL vehicles, next to buses and trams. Tisséo-Toulouse was carrying out a complete refurbishment programme (incl. interior) for the VAL206 vehicles.

The 28 metro vehicles were equipped with new IGBT based chopper traction systems including new control electronics between 2011 and Q1/2014.

The 28 metro vehicles were equipped with new IGBT based chopper traction systems including new control electronics between 2011 and Q1/2014. Strukton Rolling Stock designed and delivered the new traction systems and replaced the old electronics. In addition, Strukton Rolling Stock delivered easy to use test equipment, fully trained the client’s maintenance organisation and provided the documentation.

The traction systems are easy to install. Strukton Rolling Stock trained the client’s engineers to install the systems themselves. The complete process of dismantling the old equipment, installing the new equipment, testing and putting the VAL206 vehicles back on track took less than 2 days per vehicle. The equipment is maintenance free and could be fully tested while being mounted. In case of failures, the power modules can be easily exchanged in a matter of moments.
