Train workshop Watergraafsmeer

Strukton engineered en constructed the complete electrical infrastructure for NedTrain’s new, state-of-the-art workshop Amsterdam Watergraafsmeer. In this workshop, NedTrain maintains the rolling stock that services the high-speed rail connection between Amsterdam and Paris. The trains are able to run on three different voltage levels. The design of the workshop should therefore allow testing of the trains on 25kAC, 1500VDC and 3000VDC.

The substation was equipped with a 10kV switchgear and different transformers to feed the different voltage levels in the workshop. A 25kVAC switchpanel and DC Switchgear were installed to feed the catenary system. The workshop was designed in accordance with the highest possible safety levels.

Project scope

Strukton’s scope of works also included the signalling systems for railway operation and a signalling system indicating if the catenary system is under power and at which voltage level. The complete system is operated by a SCADA system designed and programmed by Strukton Systems, including MMIs for local operation. All systems were tested and commissioned by Strukton Systems.
